The artwork above is an acrylic piece on a 30-by-40-inch wood canvas. The work is one of my largest, most skillful works, with an emphasis on expressionism and thought.
This work was a way for me to express how I feel women of colour and women in general are both underrepresented and over-sexualized in traditional Renaissance or Traditional art. I wanted this work to be large and exposed to confront the viewer, give them a peek behind the curtain that we as humanity so curiously desire.
But with that peak, there is a statement to be made, we are more than our bodies, we are soul, we are expression itself.
